Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) is the newest generation of wireless networking, and business-grade access points and laptops that support it are now widely available. For offices with many users, video calls and cloud applications, it can make a noticeable difference. But it isn’t the right upgrade for everyone yet.
What’s new in Wi-Fi 7
- Wider 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band, for much higher peak speeds.
- Multi-Link Operation (MLO): devices can use more than one band at once, improving reliability and latency.
- 4K-QAM modulation, which packs more data into each transmission.
- Better handling of busy networks, useful in open-plan offices, meeting rooms and co-working spaces.
The 6 GHz band in the UAE
The UAE’s TDRA opened part of the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) for indoor Wi-Fi. That gives Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 equipment extra clean spectrum indoors, away from congested 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels. The full 320 MHz channel width depends on how much 6 GHz spectrum is available, so real-world speeds in the UAE will vary with the equipment and regulations. When to wait
If your current Wi-Fi 6 network performs well and most of your devices don’t support Wi-Fi 7 yet, there’s no rush. Often, better placement of access points or fixing the cabling behind them solves problems more cheaply than new hardware.

- Site survey to measure coverage, interference and user density.
- Cabling check: Wi-Fi 7 access points benefit from multi-gigabit uplinks and higher-power PoE, so Cat6A is recommended for new installs.
- Switch and firewall capacity to handle higher throughput.
- Security: WPA3, separate guest and IoT networks, and central management.
